Professional angler and member of the Hypertech Reel Team, Buddy Gross, recently realized a simple childhood dream when he competed in the 2021 Bassmaster Classic. Only 54 anglers qualified for this prestigious event. Buddy qualified for the 2021 Classic by finishing in 11th place in the 2020 Angler of the Year point totals.

Intrepid Hypertech Reel Team members Buddy Gross and Mark Menendez both finished in the money at the Bassmaster Elite Tournament at Guntersville Lake, May 20-23. Mark finished in 19th place with a total weight of 46 pounds and 3 ounces and was awarded $10,000 in prize money. Buddy finished in 43rd place with a total weight of 38 pounds and 1 ounce and was awarded $10,000 in prize money.

Mid-Season Standing Hypertech Reel Team Member Mark Menendez and Buddy Gross after 2021 Whataburger Bassmaster Elite at Neely Henry Lake event. Buddy is in 19th place for Angler of the Year with 392 total points, within the top 39 who qualify for the 2022 Bassmaster Classic. Mark has 322 total points and is now in 44th place. Mark needs a strong finish in the final tournaments to make the 2022 Classic event.

John Garrett, a member of the Hypertech Reel Team, fought hard at the Bassmaster Open at Pickwick Lake, taking home 3rd place. John’s performance earned him $18,000 in prize money and great momentum heading into the next Bassmaster Open (Northern Division) tournament at the James River, near Richmond, Virginia on May 13-15.

Buddy Gross and Mark Menendez traveled to Texas’ Lake Fork to compete in Guaranteed Rate Bassmaster Elite event on April 22nd -25th. Buddy’s three day total put in 48th place and Mark Menendez finished 80th. Both are in great position for AOY 2021 chase.

John quickly experience heavy disappointment of a not so productive Bassmaster Open on Douglas Lake event finishing 91st for the tournament. “It’s not what I wanted but I believe it’s something I can rebound from,” said John Garrett. John has his eyes on the next Bassmaster Open on Pickwick Lake.

Mother Nature out in force…rained on Guaranteed Rate Bassmaster Elite tournament at Pickwick Lake, Florence, Al. Hypertech Reel Team member, Buddy Gross fought the elements and earned a top ten finish and will cash a nice $15,000 back home in Chickamauga, Ga.

Hypertech’s CEO Amy Faulk can be found most weekends on the track and not in the Mall. The National Muscle Car Association had their first event at Bradenton Florida (March) with Amy competing in the Stock/Super Stock category. Her car sported a new paint job by Louie Trench (Alsip, IL) and it ran as good as it looks reaching speeds of over 140 MPH (naturally aspirated) in the ¼ mile. Congratulations on a great showing making it to the final nine.

Only a few hours on the road, John Garrett, received a text from Bassmaster stating that his Open Tournament had been postponed to a later date. "When you are packed and ready…you go fishing." John and Trevor McKinney locked in on a regional tournament, Fisher of Men Tournament, being held on Pickwick Lake. The twosome did a quick turnaround and headed for Pickwick. The one day tournament netted them a big of bag of bass weighing in at 22.59 pounds for a first place finish and a Bonus Bucks kicker check as well.

Hypertech Reel Team member, John Garrett, getting honed in for his next Bassmaster Open tournament in Jasper, Alabama on Lewis Smith Lake. Coming off a solid finish at the first Open event in Florida, he is ready to keep the momentum going. With several weeks before the next Open, John traveled a short distance from Union City to Kentucky Lake to participate in the Lucas Oil Mega Bucks tournament hosted by U.S.A. BASSIN. He and former Bethel University teammate, Joe McClosky, competed in the team’s division taking 2nd place with a 5 bass limit totaling 16.74 pounds capping off an action-packed tournament and a nice check.
